Born in 1951, graduated from Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University in 1973. He graduated from the Moscow Central Institute of Economics and Mathematics and in 1985 defended his dissertation there, working at the Paata Gugushvili Institute of Economics.

He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia and a consultant to the Audit Committee of TBC Bank.
